<description>Green Living is being responsible in all areas of our lives. I volunteer with a Humane Society. The pet overpopulation problem is staggering. And the solution is so simple. Spay and neuter. When one female dog can give birth to over a dozen puppies three-four times a year, and a cat can have seven or eight (there are known instances where a cat was pregnant with an even dozen), even if only half of them live, the resulting number of offspring is unbelievable. All these puppies and kittens, for the most part unwanted, have an impact in our world: killing of wildlife, fecal matter, disease. Then consider the suffering of the kittens dying of disease, starvation, predators, hit by cars. Then there is the link with animal abuse to human violence. When we put no value on something (such as unwanted puppies and kittens), we give the message it is okay to abuse them.

Again, the solution is so simple -- spay and neuter, stop the unwanted puppies and kittens.

Be responsible! This is one problem that is actually solveable. In a year, if everyone in a neighborhood, a town, a county CHOOSE to be responsible, there wouldn't be any unwanted animals in your area. Perhaps everyone on your block, in your neighborhood, could go together, and everyone donate a little bit, and spay the neighborhood stray, or help the elderly lady on very limited income get her companion animal altered.

See what spay/neuter your local Rescue groups and Humane Socities offer. If they don't offer any, talk to them about the need in your area. With everyone working together -- we can make it a Humane and Green Country!

Again, this is a problem with a proven solution.
